In this workshop, participants will collaborate to tackle accessible and highly engaging mathematical problems as we aim to develop problem-solving strategies that cultivate perseverance and highlight productive struggle. We will also consider implications of this work for equitable teaching of a diverse student population.
Our journey through problem-solving will be guided by the mathematical habits of mind woven throughout the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practice. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation, using multiple approaches, attending to precision in argumentation, making use of structure, and thinking flexibly and strategically.
All are welcome! The content in this workshop will not be focused on any particular grade level and the pedagogical ideas we will incorporate can be applied in all mathematics classrooms.
